Edei Loved

There is nothing that scares me more about reviewing than when you get a CD with remixes on them. I can count on my hand the number of remixes I’ve had worth listening to. One. And even then I can’t remember which band it was, so the thought of listening to Edei’s Loved four times over just sped up or with another stupendously varied dub step mix wasn’t one I was relishing.

The first impression you get from Edei is that she can sing, which is always a bonus rather than a necessity in pop nowadays. Her voice sounds remarkably like Jo from S Club (Don’t pretend you don’t still listen to them) and offers up a decent dose of sugar sweet pop, catchy without any real substance. There’s nothing particularly special about the track, simplistic and befitting a place in the top 20 without doing anything groundbreaking. She’s been tipped for big things in 2011 and with a tour with Girls Aloud under her belt (Albeit under a different name); she might be on the fast road to pop success, though it will take a big improvement in the future to merit success.

As anticipated (And previously moaned about), the remixes are a load of tosh so save your breath and don’t bother listening to them unless you’re a mega Edei fan. If you’re a fan of the likes of Joss Stone and any other basic pop, you might find a fare bit of enjoyment from Edei’s single. Otherwise I’d recommend allowing the young singer greater time to develop her work if she truly is to become a star in the future.
